As one of the many anger management providers using the Anderson & Anderson intervention curriculum and program I’ve come to believe it truly serves the purpose I wanted when I decided to start my anger management practice. I wanted a program with an assessment and a curriculum that was simple enough for anyone to follow regardless of their educational background that addressed the different dynamics of the root cause of anger, and that’s just what the Anderson & Anderson’s program provides.
As a member of the “Helping” profession for over 15 years I’m always conscious of whether or not those in the classes recognize my level of empathy, self awareness, self control, and unconditional positive regard. Sometimes I think they get it – and sometimes I think they don’t.
Once the client completes the agreed upon and/or required classes I give them a certificate and an Anger Management Class Review form to fill out, since every good facilitator wants to know how to improve. They have various options regarding the form, they can either fill it out then and there, take it with them to complete and fax or email their responses, or they can elect not to fill it out at all.
I recently received an email from a former student that has given me his permission to post his responses on my web site. I not only know that he left the class with more skills to manage his anger than he had upon enrollment, but I also know it was the curriculum and program that helped me provide him with these new skill sets.
Did you benefit from taking the classes, if so how?
I really did benefit from the classes or I would not be typing an assessment about the classes. There were a lot of things that I just did not know, and sometimes it is just time for an old dog to learn new tricks. First of All, I learned that I avoided – (avoidance) just about everything in my life until now. My life had been about if you get in a little trouble, I could use intimidation, manipulation and just about all the things that were on our Destructive Interactions (Negative Wheel). I learned that these behaviors were not Constructive interactions like Active Listening, Focusing and Expressing my Feelings, these things are positive. Positive is where I want to be.
Did you find the facilitator (Gregory Kyles) knowledgeable about anger management?
Yes, I did find Mr. Kyles facilitation to be very knowledgeable about anger management. Mr. Kyles allowed the students to take something with them with his method of teaching. Greg’s interaction with the students is one of respect and the utmost emotional intellect. As students, we are all going to have feelings about taking this course especially if it is needed by court or job. Most of those feelings being negative, but in this class were learn positive thinking to counter those thoughts. Greg’s intervention and extreme knowledge of situations helped me and most likely will help someone who is in or about to get in the situation I was in.
What did you like about the classes, and what did you dislike about the classes?
I like the interaction with the other students because it just showed that we are not alone in our actions…I think that reviewing what we learned previously help in ways to hammer in some of the things that we may have missed in the previous class. Greg was able to show us things or points about that class that we may have not recognized exactly then, but needed to. I had no dislikes about the class; I started the class in a positive manner and finished with a positive frame of mind.
Would you recommend the program to a family member, co-worker, or friends?
Yes, I would. I feel if you can recognize that you do have some type of anger problem, then just like drugs, knowing is half the battle.
I enjoyed Mr. Kyles class; I feel that it helped me a lot. I really don’t ever want to put my self in that position ever again. I jeopardized my family, myself, my job and just my entire existence with being angry.
